City Unveils Burlington Telecom Bids

Wednesday morning, Mayor Weinberger and City Attorney Eileen Blackwood unveiled the three active bids to purchase of BBA member business Burlington Telecom. The offers come from two companies: Ting owned by Tucows, Schurz Communications and bid from Keep BT Local to create a Coop.

“It’s important that the community understands the details of these options.” said BBA Executive Director Kelly Devine, “The future of Burlington Telecom is important to our community and its businesses. High quality telecom service is a critical part of a vibrant downtown.”

On their website Burlington Telecom has listed all three bids, as well as other relevant documents for the public to see. The bids include plans for expansion of Burlington Telecom’s footprint in Burlington, as well as the opportunity for the City of Burlington to continue to own an equity stake in BT.

“As we enter this final phase of the selection process of a buyer, I am excited for the community to meet the buyers and hear from them on their plans for BT and their commitment to this wonderful resource.  I look forward to hearing from the community about the three finalists as we share the details of their proposals.” said Burlington Telecom Advisory Board Chair and former BBA Board Member David Provost.

Beginning today, the public will have the opportunity to access each bid and weigh in at City Council meetings. The Council will vote to narrow the search down to two finalists on October 2nd, with a final vote on October 16th.
