The Results of our 2015 Advocacy survey are in, and BBA Members have made it clear that they are feeling the negative effects of low vacancy rates and the lack of market rate housing in Burlington.
Here are some of the things we heard from you:
“My employees have to buy outside of Chittenden county, which increases their commute time and time away from their families”
“It is extremely expensive to live in and around Burlington. We cannot attract high quality professionals from out of state because the cost of living here puts our company at a serious disadvantage.”
“Affordable–non-subsidized–housing in Burlington is non-existent. We need more housing that entry level professionals and service industry folks can afford.”
With 66.67% of respondents in agreement on this issue, we’re making housing a big part of our work for 2015. We’ve started the conversation about how to move forward, and our Board of Directors has already been devoting their time to working on this issue.
We will be reaching out to members with opportunities to get involved. If you would like to be involved in our work on this issue, please contact our Member Services & Events Manager Sarah O Donnell at [email protected] or our Executive Director, Kelly Devine at [email protected].
