In 2015, the BBA surveyed over 130 businesses and property owners to build an inventory of the existing security cameras in downtown Burlington. This initiative grew out of meetings held by our Downtown Action Group, in which business owners discussed their frustrations with retail theft and security for both the public and employees. Building this camera database has provided insights into where there are gaps in camera coverage in the downtown, and has helped downtown businesses understand the role that their individual cameras can play in helping deter negative behavior both inside and outside of businesses.
The Burlington Free Press recently ran a story about our initiative, with quotes from BBA’s Executive Director, Kelly Devine and Ron Redmond, Executive Director of the Church Street Marketplace.
